Final Conference (06/2009, Acitivity 4.4)

The last official activity in the frame of the project the final conference took place in Cairo end of June 2009. During two conference days the achievements of the project from the beginning until now were reflected and evaluated. In detail the first day was an internal conference where only project members participated. The internal conference started with a summary of all work packages conducted within the past 20 month. After that both local Egyptian coordinators pointed out the outcomes and impacts for each Egyptian partner university. The individual experts evaluated the project and its implementation from their point of view. The whole day Mr. Karim Hamdy one of the National TEMPUS Coordinator assistents of the Egyptian National Tempus Office (NTO) attended the conference to get a closer look to all achievements and further opportunities. On the second day a scientific symposium for public participants took place with international experts working in the field of road design, road planning and road safety. They were presenting valuable presentations containing the latest research results in their special fields of research. Many people from local authorities like GARBLT (General Authority for Roads & Bridges and Land Transport in Egypt) or representatives from the Twinning Road Safety Project in Egypt attended the symposium. Fruitful discussions of how to adapt the presented research results and approaches to Egyptians situations and requirements made this symposium to a very successful one. The symposium enables the opportunity to deepen the link between higher education institutions, public authorities and companies in Egypt. Furthermore it contributed to spread the outcomes of the IREITEU project to a wider audience. (presentation slides)

The overall objectives of the project were completely reached. On both Egyptian partner universities the curricula in transport related courses were enhanced. New teaching methods and IT-technologies could be introduced according to each universities special needs. The higher education could be improved in a way to meet European standards of teaching and learning.  A powerful foundation was created to teach students in a way which make it easier for them to work efficiently, in a very good quality in shortest time. These skills taught already in both partner universities made it easier for perspective graduated students to join the labour market and contribute to the further development and economic adaptation of Egypt to international standards.
